For Sale: One adult-sized chicken suit. One adult-sized gorilla suit. $50 each.
Cara and Del McMillan have owned the two costumes for five years. Both are active musicians.
The couple put an advertisement for the costumes in the Tribune’s free classified ads two weeks ago.
“We’ve just grown tired of them,” Cara says. “We’ve kept them in excellent condition.”
Every Halloween, the costumes usually make an appearance at Cara’s business, Music from A to Z, which introduces music to children age 3 through second grade.
“It keeps the young ones entertained,” she says. “We don’t just wear the costumes for ourselves.”
“We’ve had some good times with them,” says Del, a pharmacist at Fairview Internal Medicine.
From dancing at a niece’s wedding reception to saying goodnight to his grandchildren, Del, who is also a member of the Boone County Fire Protection District’s Pipes and Drums band, has caused some fright over the years with his gorilla suit.
“He likes to scare people,” Cara says.
Cara and Del, who have been married for 10 years and met while both were singers in their church’s choir, found new costumes to continue their yearly traditions. Cara invested in a Dr. Seuss suit, and she recently bought Del a new Viking suit.
“We wanted something new,” she says.
